Oliver Funeral Home of Winona, Inc.
John Ellis Gaskin
(June 10, 1959 - August. 10, 2018)

John Ellis Gaskin, 59, of Long Beach, formerly of Winona, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018, at Canon Hospice, Gulfport.

John was the son of Jacqueline Brewer Gaskin of Long Beach and the late William Davis “Bill” Gaskin of Winona, and was born on
June 10, 1959, in Columbus, Mississippi.

After graduating from Winona High School in 1977, John proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1977-1982 before attending the
University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.  John worked for Byers Engineering and
Citi Bank as an electronic technician. John lived many years in Tampa, FL where he could often be found with a fishing line in the Gulf
of Mexico, keenly awaiting his next big catch. Those for whom he showed great affection also cherish fond memories enjoying John’s
company on the beautiful beaches of coastal Florida. John’s ever-present sunny charisma will forever remain in the hearts of all who
had the pleasure of witnessing his generous and humble legacy.

In addition to his mother, John is survived by his son, Toby Gaskin, (Jessica Gaskin) of Cary, N.C., his two sisters, Levern Livingston,
(Larry Livingston) of Charleston, S.C., and Rebecca Gaskin of Long Beach, and his brother, Maurice Gaskin, (Betty Ruth Gaskin) of
Magee, Miss.  John also leaves behind Rebecca Floyd Gaskin, (m. 1990-2003) and his three grandchildren, Oliver, Annalise, and
Theodore Gaskin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will be one
hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to help veterans:
