Funeral services for Mr. John Leslie Thomas of Winona will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 15, in the Oliver Funeral Home
Chapel, with Rev. John Thomas and Rev. Jerry McNeer officiating the services. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, with
military honors at graveside.
Visitation will be Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas, 80, passed away at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. He was born in
Doddsville, Mississippi, on July 25, 1938, to John Davis and Eleanor Mary Watson Thomas. He was the retired manager of Mississippi
Valley Gas Company in Winona and a member of North Winona Baptist Church in Winona. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a member
of the Gideons International. Mr. Thomas will be remembered as a great husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and his dog,
Jodi. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Jane Thomas; his second wife, Maurine Thomas; grandson, Michael
Elam; and sisters, Mary Nichols, Martha Sue Thomas, and Ruth Kreis.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Margaret P. Smith Thomas of Winona; daughters, Brenda Kay Thomas Gray (John) of Vancleave and
Leslie Ann Thomas Watts (Shawn) of Hawaii; son, Ronald Leslie Lane Thomas (Sandy) of Anchorage, Alaska; stepdaughter, Becky Willing
(Butch) of Avalon; stepson, Charles Bruce Smith of Greenwood; sister, Evelyn McClellen of Houston, Texas; brothers, Charles Thomas of
Tutwiler and Jim Thomas (Arleen) of Melbourne, Florida; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Thomas, Larry Minyard, Don Hodges, Charles McCrary, Windell Stoker, and Lawrence Braswell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Johnson, Ray Pickerly, and the Men's Sunday School Class of North Winona Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, the Alzheimer's Association, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
