Funeral services for Debra Kay Avent of Grenada, formerly of Winona, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, in the Oliver Funeral Home
Chapel, with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Rev. John Goldwater, assisted by Rev. Saxton Odom, will officiate the
services. Pallbearers will be Zach Avent, James Travis Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Chris Terry, and Dustin Horne; and honorary pallbearers
will be Laike Horne, Luke Terry, and Lane Horne.
Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until service time, at the funeral home.
Ms. Avent, 49, died at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada on Tuesday, February 27. She was born in Winona on June 30,
1968, to John O. and Willie Sue Blaylock Avent. She was disabled, but had worked as a sales associate at Walmart in Winona and as a
certified nurse assistant at Winona Manor. She served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of Christ Community
Church in Grenada. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her father, John O. Avent of Winona; sisters, Brenda Rigby (Jerry) of Carmack and Gail Johnson (James "Bubba") of
Eupora; brother, John G. Avent (Angel) of French Camp; nieces and nephews, Rosie Rigby Terry, Bobbie Sue Horne, James Travis
Johnson, Hunter Johnson, and Zach Avent; one great-niece; and three great-nephews.
