Elder Jesse Clayton Phillips
(March 5, 1936 - February 18, 2019)

Elder Jesse Clayton Phillips of Hernando passed from this life on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the State Veterans Home in Oxford.  A
memorial service for Elder Phillips will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Dewayne
Dubard and Rev. Fletcher Moorman officiating.  Visitation will be at Oliver Funeral Home on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Elder Phillips, 82, was born in Geneva, Georgia, on March 5, 1936.   He was the son of the late William Steven and Corinne Cumbie Phillips,
and the widower of the late Kathleen Sykes Phillips.  Elder Phillips was a Primitive Baptist minister for many years, pastoring numerous
churches in Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Mississippi, with the majority of his pastorates being in Mississippi.  Elder
Phillips was also retired from the St. Joe Paper Box Company in Memphis (35 years)  and H & R Block in Memphis (30 years), and was a
veteran of the U. S. Navy.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Dorothy Joe "Dot" Chism;
brother-in-law, R. J. Sykes; and n
ine brothers and sisters.

Elder Phillips is survived by his stepdaughter, Doris Elaine Blackburn (Stephen Glen) of Hernando; sister, Ne
ll Singleton of Georgia;
grandchildren, Christy Jo Russell, Timothy Chism, and Glenna Denise Bates; great-grandchild, Brody Tyler Birdsong; sisters-in-law, Lucy
McCollough of Duck Hill, Sarah Hendrix of Grenada, and Bonnie Applegate of Dayton, Ohio; brother-in-law, Sam Sykes of Grenada; and
many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, 43 Lower Bethlehem Road, Winona, MS  38967; or to the Mt.
Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 410 Hwy 404, Duck Hill, MS  38925.
