Skyler Bowen Flowers
(March 16, 1995 - May 20, 2017)
Skyler Bowen Flowers, 22, of Ocean Springs, MS was granted his angel wings on May 20, 2017 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor
vehicle accident. His last hours were spent doing what he loved…teaching tennis lessons. Skyler, the son of George and Roma (Sluder)
Flowers, was born in Pascagoula, MS, on March 16, 1995.
Skyler graduated from Ocean Springs High School with high honors in 2013. He excelled in academics and athletics. Skyler holds the
current record for MS 6A boy’s tennis titles. The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame honored Skyler as Most Outstanding Tennis Player his
senior year. Mississippi Tennis Association awarded Skyler with College Male Scholar/Athlete which included a 4 year academic
scholarship. Skyler played collegiate tennis at Mississippi Gulf Coast and Belhaven University.
Skyler was currently pursuing a Finance degree from Mississippi State University. He was a Presidential Scholar which included
membership to Phi Sigma Pi Honor Fraternity and Gamma Lota Business Honor Society. Athletically, Skyler won both singles and doubles
intramural tennis titles this year at State.
Skyler is survived by his parents, George and Roma (Sissy Sluder) Flowers of Ocean Springs; his older brother, Billy, also from Ocean
Springs. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Skyler is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Mary
Ann Flowers of Winona, MS; and his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Sally Sluder of Baton Rouge, LA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Treasure Oak Country Club in Ocean Springs on Thursday, May 25 from 3:00 – 6:00. Funeral
arrangements are being handled by Oliver Funeral Home in Winona, MS. Visitation will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in
Winona on Saturday, May 27 from10:00 – 11:00. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona.
In closing, this was Skyler’s favorite Bible verse: Proverbs 16:3 “Commit yourself to the Lord. and your plans will succeed.”
