William Harold Tompkins
(February 1, 1928 - June 7, 2017)

Graveside services for Mr. William Harold Tompkins of Brandon will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, at the Poplar Springs Baptist
Church Cemetery near Kilmichael, with Rev. Tony Black officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.

Mr. Tompkins, 89, died at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson on Wednesday, June 7.  He was born in Kilmichael on February 1,
1928, to James V. and Emma Lee Chesteen Tompkins.  He was a retired firefighter with the City of Jackson Fire Department.  In his
younger years, he liked to fish and hunt, and he enjoyed gardening after his retirement.  Mr. Tompkins was a Baptist.  He was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife, Gladys Cumbest Tompkins; and his siblings, Virginia Henley, Eddie Ruth Bishop, Bertie M. Seiler, Billy E.
Tompkins, Shirley Emma Burdine, Dorothy Elaine Taylor, and Ronald Donald James Tompkins.

Mr. Tompkins is survived by his son, William Harold Tompkins Jr. and his wife, Jo Ellen, of Clermont, Florida; sister, Tip Redden of Mayfield,
Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Jason Andrew Tompkins of St. Petersburg, Florida; David Stewart Tompkins of Brandon, and Kathryn
Elizabeth Tompkins of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poplar Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Sue Stidham, 406 Jones Street, Winona, MS  38967.

Harold and Gladys were the best friends of my husband and I . I will miss them both. They both had a heart of gold
were always sharing from the garden and their time with me. When Gladys died Harold and I kept in touch by phone
