Funeral services for Richard Stuart Flournoy of Hampton, Virginia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, in the Oliver Funeral
Home Chapel, with burial following in Vaiden Cemetery in Vaiden. Rev. Dennis Gossett will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be
Ted Hodges, Tyler Hodges, Joseph Melton, Bill Hammons, and Stewart Hammons.
Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Flournoy, 75, passed away at the Coliseum Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, Virginia, on Tuesday, March 12.
He was born in Winona on March 10, 1944, to Richard Flournoy Jr. and Ruth Weis Flournoy. He was an industrial engineer, earning his
engineering degree from Mississippi State University in 1968. Mr. Flournoy was an avid MSU Bulldog and Washington Redskins fan.
He later earned a degree in Social Work from Thomas Nelson Community College. He was an active member of West Hampton
Baptist Church in Hampton. In his later years, Mr. Flournoy was very helpful to everyone at the nursing home where he was a resident.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce Edward Flournoy.
Mr. Flournoy is survived by two sisters, Carol Ely of Roanoke, Virginia, and Janet Flournoy of Headley, England; three nieces; one
grandniece; two grandnephews; and his Mississippi relatives, including an aunt and several cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or a charity of
the donor's choice.
