Raymond Bruce Story
(June 30, 1949 - December 12, 2020)
Raymond Bruce Story of Kosciusko, formerly of Coila, passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford on
Saturday, December 12, 2020. He was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, on June 30, 1949, and was 71 years old.
Mr. Story was a former EMT and was retired from Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona. He was a US Navy
veteran of Vietnam. After his Navy service, he enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard, and retired after
twenty years, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the MSARNG, he completed several specialized schools. He
served as a medical section chief and was also activated during Desert Storm in 1990-91. He was a member of Coila
Baptist Chuch in Coila. After a series of strokes and seizures and the death of his wife, Mr. Story made the decision to
move to the Martha Jo Leslie State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, and had resided there since May 2019. Before his
health declined, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Mr. Story was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Beth" Downs Story; his parents, Raymond and Robby
Hutchinson Story; sister, Nancy Lee Story; and brother, Michael "PeeWee" Story. Survivors include his sons, Jeremy
Story (Haley) of Greenwood and Josh Story of Coila; sister, Cheryl Wiltshire (Mike) of Coila; grandchildren, Chloe and
Lucas Story of Greenwood; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins, in-laws, and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, at Coila Cemetery in Coila. Rev. Terry
Corley will officiate the service. Military honors will be rendered at graveside by American Legion Post 29 of
Mr. Story's family extends its thanks and gratitude to the ICU staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital; and to the staff at the
Martha Jo Leslie State Veterans Home, for their love and care of him during the time he was there.
