James Robert "Papaw" Hunt
(July 14, 1940 - September 24, 2020)
James R. Hunt, 80, known to many as Papaw James, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at North
Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. Mr. Hunt was a long-time citizen of the Poplar Springs Community in
Montgomery County, where he and his late wife, Elizabeth "Boots" Hunt, raised theiir family for forty-three years.
Mr. Hunt was a retired mechanic and a veteran of the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was a member of
Poplar Springs Baptist Church near Kilmichael. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Roy
Hunt; and his mother, Bertha Olene Hunt.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his children, Bobby Hunt (Cherri) of Kilmichael, Jimmy Don Hunt (Vicky) of Kilmichael, Mary
Rainwater (Junior) of Marion, Arkansas, Teresa Gail Hunt of Kilmichael, and Christy Holiday (David) of Kilmichael;
sister, Lorene Palmertree of Kilmichael; grandchildren, Sheila Lovelace, Dan Birmingham, Timothy Parish, Michael
Hunt, Ashly Eldridge, Joshua Hunt, Joseph Hunt, Bryan Rainwater, Jeffrey Hunt, Nikki Britt, Craig Britt, Sabrina
Rainwater, Rachel Hunt, Abby Holiday, and Gracie Holiday; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church near
Kilmichael, with Rev. Brad Herod officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
