
Funeral services for James “Sonny” Crouch of Winona will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28 in the Oliver Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church Cemetery near Kilmichael. Rev. Terry Edwards and Rev. Billy Little will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Robert “Baldy” Collins, Ronnie Montague, Terry Corley, David Blaylock, Chris McDonald, Clay Collins, and Doug Viney. James Ayers and Kenny Self will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 28 at Oliver Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
James “Sonny” Crouch, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in Montgomery County on September 27, 1937 to Arthur Otis “Dick” and Ruby Estell Carpenter Crouch. Sonny was a truck driver for J. J. Ferguson and member of Southside Baptist Church in Winona. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Sonny enjoyed serving alongside his wife with their gospel music ministry and is now face to face with Christ, for whom he sang for so many years.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Betty Chesteen Crouch of Winona; daughter, Debra Crouch of Dover, Deleware; two sons, Jesse Crouch of Magee and Andy Crouch of Grenada; brother, William Crouch of Stewart; stepdaughter, Melissa Sims of French Camp; stepson, Terry Edwards of Stewart; 12 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, James Matthew Crouch; sister, Lottie Brenneman; brother, Robert Crouch; and granddaughter, Heather Montague.

Betty, my heart aches, I have just heard about Sonny passing away. I did not know it. Such a dear, treasured friend for many years. He will be missed greatly. One thing I know, he’s rejoicing with Jesus and singing as never before along beside my Billy in that heavenly choir. A great man, lifetime friend and many precious memories. Praying for you. Love you and will be to visit soon.
