Graveside services for Mr. Jerry “Jaybo” Tharp, Sr. of Winona will be held Sunday, January 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Milligan Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Stewart, MS. Rev. Jay Anderson will officiate the service.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 15 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Tharp, 74, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital. He was born in Winona, MS on December 3, 1947 to W.M. and Sybil Sellers Tharp. He was a retired mail carrier, member of Legion Lake, an avid Ole Miss football and baseball fan and served in the Mississippi Army National Guard.
Mr. Tharp is survived by his mother, Sybil Tharp of Winona; daughter, Kristy Tharp of Winona; sons, Jay Tharp of Grenada and Stephen Tharp of Winona; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Katherine K. Tharp; brother, Glen Allen Tharp; and grandson, Andrew Tharp.

So sorry,we will miss him so much. The spring will bring the bee swarms and he so enjoyed spotting them. I know he and Kathy are together again what a celebration they are having. He was a good neighbor!

Sybil and Family, I am so sorry to hear about Jaybo. We enjoyed growing up with him and Glen Allen as kids and I enjoyed visiting with him whenever I saw him around Winona. I am so sorry for your loss and pray for comfort for you during this time.

I never had the privilege in meeting Jaybo’s family but he and I were good friends, we met when we were at Delta State back in the 70’s, he was the Dorm Monitor in our dormitory. He room across the hall from me and we became close friends. I was from Greenwood and after he graduated I tried to stay in touch with him and everytime I met someone from Winona, I would ask them do they know Jaybo Tharp and everyone knew him and he was well liked. Will miss him dearly and he will always be in my prayers RIP my good friend.

I am so sorry about Jaybo. I always thought so much of him. The last time I saw Jaybo, he and Paul Pittman were at Walmart. I happened to see them and we had a class reunion in Walmart. They were waiting for Mrs. Tharp and Paul’s aunt to do their shopping. I know Jaybo will be missed. Prayers for you all.

The very name “Jaybo” has been special to me all my life. With Jaybo and my brother, George Harris, being 4 grades older than me, and them being good friends, I had the opportunity to know and care greatly for Jaybo from my early days. I thought it was so cool that Jaybo, being about the youngest person in his class, could get in an extra year of little league baseball, while all his class mates had to move on to Pony League. Talk about squeezing in an extra year of fun life! Jaybo asked me once to do something for him. I was so proud. He was running the 220 yard dash for the Tigers, and the coach had been on him about running while being to “straight up”, almost looking as if he was leaning backwards. Jaybo asked me to stand at about the 150 yard point and when he came running by to yell at him “bow your neck, bow your neck”. I gladly accommodated, yelling at the top of my lungs. We still did not win that one. Thanks Jaybo for all the memories. Much love to the family.

as college football players. Jaybo was a good friend, an even better teammate,
