
Funeral services for Alton Rufus Carpenter, Jr. of Winona will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7 at Scotland Baptist Church in Winona, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Billy Little will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be David “Crockett” Pearce, Mark Henley, David Blaylock, Andrew Carpenter, Josh Hunt, and Shane Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are David Lee Bailey, Bill Carpenter, Wilson Carpenter, Gary Carpenter, and Johnny Williams.
Visitation will be Monday, November 7 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Alton Rufus Carpenter, Jr., 61, passed away at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 4, 2022. He was born on March 15, 1961 in Winona. He worked with his father as a brick layer and loved listening to the Winona Tigers and Mississippi State ballgames on the radio. He was an avid Hank Williams and country music fan and also listened to gospel music on French Camp Radio. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Winona.
He is survived by his son, Anthony Carpenter of Winona; mother, Mary Jane McCorkle of Winona; sister, Angela Bailey of Winona; brother, Hank Carpenter of Winona; two nieces, Shelby Hunt and Brianna Bailey; nephew, Andrew Carpenter; three great-nieces, Bailey Hunt, Elizabeth Carpenter, and Nora Lynn Hunt; and two great-nephews, Shane Bailey and Harlan Carpenter. He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Alton Rufus Carpenter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Scotland Baptist Church, 725 Scotland Rd, Winona, MS 38967.

Mary Jane, I am so sorry to hear about Alton. I didn’t know he was in that condition. I know you and family will miss him but he is in no more pain and will have lots of friends to sit and talk to. You know what I went through and I know what you are going through. The hurt will never go away but it will get livable afte a while. I love you and I loved Alton. Jo Pearson
