Anna Maxine Harrison

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Maxine Harrison, 94, of Kilmichael will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Kilmichael United Methodist Church, with burial following in Old Plank Cemetery in Vaiden. Rev. Cindy Glazier will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Trent Harrison, Ryan Hovas, Justin Hovas, Clint Vaughn, Luke Vaughn, and Brent Woods. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be Friday, April 29 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home and Saturday, April 30 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Kilmichael United Methodist Church.

Anna Maxine Harrison was born on November 22, 1927, in rural Carroll County. One of four children born to Brantley Harrell Scott and Maggie Mai Gordin Scott, she is preceded in death by her sister, Rubye Louise Briscoe Pullen and brothers, Harrell Gordin Scott and John Stanley Scott.

In 1945 she married Ernest Quinton Harrison, Jr. Together they had six children; Linda Fay Hovas (Benny), Glenda Kay Hovas (Billy), Barbara Ann Tompkins (Gregory), James Quinton Harrison, Rebecca Lynn McCormick (Charlie) and Wayne Brantley Harrison who survived her. A daughter, Wanda Louise Harrison died in infancy. In addition she leaves 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

She was employed as a seamstress and supervisor at Windam Manufacturing in Winona 1959-1978. In 1978 with good references for her cooking abilities, Brent Towing Company of Greenville hired her as a riverboat cook. She worked with them for many years and then with various other towing companies until in 2001 at the age of 73 she decided to retire.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kilmichael United Methodist Church or Old Plank Cemetery Fund.

  3. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Maxine. She was a hard worker and she loved her family. I got to know her when we both worked at McGregor Mfg. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Love in Christ, Deborah and Dennis Miller

  5. Maxine was a special person. She was a blessing to anyone who knew her. My boys ate many a meal at her house. I think she fed every kid in Kilmichael. My love and prayers go out to all of her family. Her friends in and out of Kilmichael will never forget MaMeen.

  6. Loved Mrs Maxine. I always enjoyed talking with her at the grocery store as she got groceries for her family dinners that she loved to cook. Prayers for all her family. She will be missed.

  9. Recently, for some reason Miss Maxine had come to my mind, and I had wondered about her. I remember her so well and how kind and gracious she always was. Barbara and I were in the same grade, and Miss Maxine and all the kids were at the Methodist Church at Kilmichael more than regularly. I especially remember her as the adult leader of our MYF group. May she now and forever be in God’s presence enjoying her many well-deserved heavenly rewards.

  10. I am so saddened by the passing of Miss Maxine. She was such a sweet, friendly lady. I always enjoyed seeing her. A wonderful mother to her own children and all of her children’s friends. I have fond memories of parties at her house. I will miss her.
    I may not be able to come, I am recovering from some surgery, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you. May God bless each of the family.
