Brenda King Dowell Carson

February 28, 1944 – May 1, 2021


Mrs. Brenda King Dowell Carson, 77, went to her heavenly home on May
1, 2021, with her loving family by her side at home. Brenda was born
February 28, 1944 in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was preceded in
death by her father, John Dowell, mother Helen Gibbons, and
stepfather Robert Gibbons; four brothers, Kenneth, Denny, Robert, and
Rondia Dowell, and a sister Eva Dowell. She is survived by her loving
husband, Kyle (Killer) Carson of over 60 years; her son John (Merry)
Carson, two daughters Tammie (Ed) Brewer and Penny Burnet. She is
also survived by her grandchildren, Timothy and Daniel Carson,
Jonathan (Gagelyn) Brewer, Benjamin (Robyn) Brewer, Sarah (Wes)
McDonald, and Cosby Burnet; and her great grandchildren, Presley
McDonald, Ryleigh Brewer, and Natalie Brewer; and numerous nieces
and nephews. She received her AA degree as well as the English
honors award from Hinds Junior College and graduated in May 1972.
At that time, she was raising three children and worked full-time at
South Central Bell at night and still received straight A’s, with the
exception of one B. She was employed at South Central Bell from
August of 1969 until her retirement on February 27th, 2004 with 34.5
years of service. Brenda was a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church
for 44 years. During those years, she was a Sunday School Teacher, a
Sunday School Director for the Children’s Department, taught
Masterlife Seminars, was a choir member and soloists, taught and led
music for VBS and led many outreach programs. She received a
Doctorate of Service degree from Barbados Baptist College in June
1988. She also received a certification in music leadership from New
Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2006. In her later years, she
was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church where she sang in
the choir and led a session of The Way of the Master. She was
precious to us and we loved hearing her sing all the time and loved her
beautiful smile! What a joy!!

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4 at Daniel Memorial Church in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5 at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery in Winona with Rev. Tim Aycock officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s
Research Hospital, Daniel Memorial Baptist Church Choir, or a
charity of your choice.
