Carroll J. Mitchell

March 14, 1945 – April 6, 2024

Funeral services for Carroll J. Mitchell of Carrollton will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church near Carrollton, with burial following in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery near Carrollton. The services will be officiated by Rev. Leon Holly, assisted by Rev. Bennie Watson. Pallbearers will be Shane Floyd, Byron Pemberton, Phillip Peacock, David DuVall, Kyle DuVall, and James McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Downs, Jimmy Tullos, Mark DuVall, and J. R. Hart.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 11 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Carroll J. Mitchell, 79, passed away at her daughter’s residence in Olive Branch on Saturday, April 6, 2024. She was born on March 14, 1945 to George Washington and Lena Mae Mann Hopper Sr. in the Fletcherfield Community near Clarksdale. She was a retired clerk for DHS in Montgomery County and enjoyed playing music, knowing how to play several instruments. She was an active member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church and a member of the Carroll County Dulcimer Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Mitchell DuVall (Mark) of Olive Branch; five grandchildren, Shane Floyd, Adrianne Peacock (Phillip), Byron Pemberton, David DuVall, and Kyle DuVall; four great-grandchildren, Brinkley Floyd, Dallas Floyd, Wesley Floyd, and Kyle DuVall, Jr.; son-in-law, J. R. Hart of Mize; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Byron Mitchell; daughter, Tammy Mitchell Hart; three sisters, Marie Hopper Utz, Vera Mae Hopper Downs, and Dorothy Hopper Hopkins; two brothers, George W. Hopper Jr. and Elvin Hopper; and 3 siblings who passed during infancy.
