Edna Ruth Putman, 90, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona. Graveside services are 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 9, at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Rev. Billy Little will officiate the services with Rev. Johnny Walker assisting.
Ruth Putman was born to John Talley and Dovie Nail Talley on November 5, 1932, in Choctaw County. In her youth, she is remembered as being an outstanding basketball player for Kilmichael High School. Ruth was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook and a gifted artist. She shared these talents freely with friends and family up to a few days before her passing. Having accepted Christ as her savior only in recent years, she spent many hours studying her bible and looking forward to visits from Rev. Billy Little and Rev. Johnny Walker and their wives.
Ruth is survived by her son, David Lynn Putman and wife Laurie; grandson, John Harvey Putman and wife Mariclaire; great-granddaughters Ava Claire and Katherine Marian; one great-grandson Jacob David and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Putman, Jr.; son, Donald Wayne Putman; four sisters, Ivanell Hughes, Dorothy Mitchell, Mazell Peacock, Lucille Peacock and two brothers, Denton Talley and Eloise Talley.
In lieu of flowers the family would suggest a contribution to Christ’s Cross at the Crossroads, P.O. Box 521, Winona, MS 38967 or a charity of your choice.
Dear David and Family,
We send our sympathy to all of you in the passing of Mrs. Putman. The Putmans were our sweet backyard neighbors for years and we always enjoyed our many visit with them sitting on their back patio in the late afternoons. Mrs. Putman was a very good cook and shared her goodies with us often. She will be missed by many of us!
