George Everette McCrory Sr.

George Everette McCrory Sr. of the Boyd community in Carroll County Mississippi passed away at his residence on Friday, March 17, 2023. Visitation will be held at Oliver Funeral Home Monday, March 20th from 10 A.M. until service time. Funeral services will be held in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am with burial following at Moore’s Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County. Rev. Eddie Carpenter and Rev. Joseph Sansing will officiate the services.

Mr. McCrory was born on January 8, 1946, to Jessie Kirven and Loriene Peterson McCrory. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Carroll County. George proudly served in the United States Army’s 173rd Quarter Master Company during the Vietnam War and the Army Reserve’s Petroleum Company during Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. George retired from both the Army Reserve and the Mississippi Forestry Commission.

Mr. McCrory is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Browning McCrory, sons Rhett McCrory (Julie) of Mantachie, Scott McCrory (Tabitha) of Carrollton, and Brook McCrory (Shelley) of Carrollton, Grandchildren Tripp, Mallory, Kirven, Mel, and Joseph McCrory. Step-Grandchildren Chase and Ben Mitchell. Brothers Jessie McCrory (Shirley) of Carrollton, Kenny McCrory of Red Oak, Tx, and Danny McCrory of Carrollton.

Throughout his life, George enjoyed playing his guitar and fiddle. He also loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. George had a big personality that will be dearly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tripp McCrory, Kirven McCrory, Mel McCrory, Joseph McCrory, Reed Browning, and Ken Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Acey, Scott Beck, Ken Carver, Mark Clark, and Anthony Beckwith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of donor’s choice.

  3. Janice, I never had the pleasure to meet you but George and I were in the 173rd together and georges responsibility was to watch me every weekend because I had the habit of getting in trouble every drill. I will miss him dearly, my prayers go out to you and your family.
