Hazel Mason Sanders

Hazel Mason Sanders passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, in Columbus, MS at the age of 97. She was born to Abner and Latha Hooks Mason on January 3, 1926. She lived most of her life in Carrollton, MS. The past 20 years she lived in Columbus, MS. She was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church, Carrollton, MS and Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.

She was an avid reader and her love for crocheting afghans and cross stitching continues to be enjoyed by the hundreds of friends and family she shared her passion with, which she continued even while living in the assisted living complex where she resided the last two years of her life.

Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by husband, J.W. Sanders, Sr., granddaughter, Terri Jo McCrory and great-grandson, William Clay James. She is survived by son, Dr. Jack Sanders and wife Mary; daughters, Sandra S. James and her husband Charles, and Jo Nell Foster and her husband Tommy; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Biff Lee.

Pallbearers will be Houston Sanders, Colby Ponds, James A. Neill, III, Jared Knox, Austin Alderman and Caleb Pickard.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton, MS. Rev. Tommy Gillon will officiate the service.
