Funeral services for James Denman Bennett, of Water Valley, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Water Valley, with burial following in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. Terry Champion will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be James Griffin, Hunter Bennett, John Bennett, Robert Patton, Terry Allen, Jr., and Willie McCachren. Anthony Bennett will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Water Valley.

Mr. James Denman Bennett, 87, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley. He was born in Winona to Frank Leslie and Mary Costilow Bennett on April 10, 1935. He was a retired carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Water Valley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by great-grandson, Peyton Griffin; and stepson, Keith Ambrose.

Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, Ruby Westmoreland Bennett of Water Valley; daughter, Barbara Kay Griffin of Water Valley; two sons, Frankie Bennett of Water Valley and Wayne Bennett of Horn Lake; stepdaughter, Karen McCrite of Batesville; stepson, Ken Ambrose of Byhalia; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 1710 N. Main St., Water Valley, MS 38965.

  1. Please accept my condolences, Denman was a fine man. I have precious memories of time spent in his home when we were young. It was a privilege and a blessing to claim him as a friend.
