Bro. Jimmy Gilbert Prather, age 76, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada. He was born in Concord, Georgia on December 10, 1946. He was a US Army veteran tasked with refueling aircraft, was good at carpentry, and was a member of Elliot Baptist Church. Bro. Jimmy’s second love was his wife, Donna, and his third love was ministering to troubled girls. These two were rooted in who was his first love, Jesus Christ. The impact he made on the hundreds of lives he touched was generational. This was made most evident when the Prathers’ started Hope Christian Home and Academy near Duck Hill in 1998. Girls who came into his care were shown what traits a Godly husband and father were to embody, as well as showing those same girls’ husbands what it meant to truly love and serve their families.

Bro. Prather is survived by his daughter, Tammy Thompson (Mark) of Westphalia, Missouri; brother, Michael Ormseth of McDonough, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and dozens of girls he and Mrs. Donna had in their care over almost three decades.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Teasley Prather; mother, Reba Collins; stepfather, Jason Duane Ormseth; and sister, Donna Ormseth.
