Larry Joe Greenlee

January 14, 1952 – April 28, 2024

Funeral services for Larry Joe Greenlee of Kilmichael will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Kilmichael Baptist Church, with burial following in Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church Cemetery near Kilmichael. Pastor Dale Sorgen will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Gary Blount, Glenn Pearson, Jeffrey Stafford, Guy Stanford, Larry Bamberg, Rodney Mortimer, Terry Thomas, Barry “Pine” Blakely, Wayne Ford, and John Hodges.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kilmichael Baptist Church and Wednesday, May 1, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Kilmichael Baptist Church.

Larry Joe Greenlee, 72, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at his home in Kilmichael. He was born in Kilmichael, MS to Harvey A. and Sara Ware Greenlee January 14, 1952. Mr. Greenlee was an active member of Kilmichael Baptist Church. He served the community as the owner of Greenlee’s Shoprite his whole life and has been the owner the past 35 years. He loved the store and the people he came contact with on a daily basis. People were his passion. He served on the board for Bank of Kilmichael and was a member of the Lion’s Club and MSU “M” Club. He was an avid Mississippi State University football fan, where he played football during college. He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard and especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play football.

He will be greatly missed as he has been coined Kilmichael’s Hometown Hero!

Mr. Greenlee is survived by his wife, Robin Greenlee of Kilmichael; daughter, Lauren Dianne Cooper (Michael) of Starkville; son, Larry Joe Greenlee II of Kilmichael; sister, Jill White (Pat) of Kilmichael; brother, Mickey Greenlee (Selena) of Brookhaven; two grandsons, Rhett Cooper and Westin Cooper; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

  1. Lauren Ann, Joe, and family I’m so sorry for your loss of such a fine man! It was always the highlight of my childhood talking with Mr. Larry at the store or at MS State Ball games. His love for his family, town, Bulldogs, and Jesus was evident every time I talked with him. Lifting you all up in prayer!

He was a wonderful person and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Such a loss for Kilmichael and Montgomery County.
