Margarita “Margie” Cordero Vaughn

July 30, 1938 – August 31, 2024

Margarita “Margie” Cordero Vaughn of Winona died Saturday, August 31, 2024, at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS. She was born on July 30, 1938, in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. She was married to the late Grady Franklin “Frankie” Vaughn, Sr. of Winona, MS for 52 years until his death in 2008.

Margarita was a loving and dedicated wife and mother and passionate servant of the Lord in the churches she served through the years. Also, she served as interpreter for Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International working in Nicaragua, Honduras, and Mexico, where she helped to lead many to the Lord. She worked at the McGregor Factory in Winona as a seamstress. She was an entrepreneur as well. She owned Susie’s Ceramics and Burger Basket of Winona, and Panchito’s of Greenwood, MS. She was a member of Winona Welcome Wagon.

She is survived by four daughters and one son, Kathy (Lee) Daughtry of Grenada, Frank (Gina) Vaughn, Jr. of Winona, Tammy Vaughn of Winona, Bettye (Jeff) James of Winona, Susan “Susie” Welch of Hattiesburg. Fifteen Grandchildren, Kari Gehrett-Hargett, Richard “Richie” Gehrett, III, Howard “Howie” Gehrett, Sr., Frank Vaughn III, Cole Vaughn, Ryan Vaughn, Heather Vaughn Mims, Hunter Vaughn, Michael Cordero Vaughn, Morgan Taylor Vaughn, Jeff James, Jr., Chad James, Matthew James, Carly Welch Holland, and the late Corey Welch. She is also survived by her twenty-five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She leaves three brothers and three sisters, Juan (Theresa) Cordero, Manuel Cordero, Roberto (Delia) Cordero, Rosario (Chayo) Cordero, Irma Cordero, and Evelia Cordero. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Visitation will be Monday, September 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Oliver Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM in the Oliver Chapel. Rev. Ryan Vaughn and Rev. Frank Vaughn will officiate the services. Burial will be at New Hope Methodist Church Cemtery in Winona. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Vaughn’s Grandson’s.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS. Their compassion and care went above and beyond. Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital for their care and coordination of transport so quickly to River Oaks. Dr. Joseph Robers of Grenada for his many years of care. Dianne Rosa, at home caretaker and dear friend for her patience and loving care, and Shirley Dance and Moore Memorial Methodist Church, where she was a member for providing a meal for our family.
