Rest in peace my friend. You showed your usual strength & courage during the months after your health began to fail. Our friendship started in the basement of the dorm by the football field when it was Holmes Junior College. Over the years we seemed to reconnect in various ways. I married someone from Carmack several years later and learned that the community is about half between James’ homeplace and yours. Then we moved to Kosciusko from Canton in 1978 & I went to work for Social Security in 1979 & you were working for DDS. Lost touch over the last 5 or so years but by chance I ran into one day at CVS. We planned to have lunch & then COVID came along & it never happened. I will treasure the mask you made for me & put in my mailbox. The end of October I had pacemaker surgery & when I sent you a text to tell you it was then you shared your your health problems. As we talked via text you told me about your upcoming surgery. God gave us one last chance to see each other my friend that Saturday night in April at Carmack. We did have our meal together but at separate tables. You are no longer in pain and you were so independent it would have been hard to depend on anyone to care for you. So happy you were able to go to church on Mother’s Day and as a mother I’m sure I know your prayer. May God give James, Dana & her family strength & courage in the days, weeks and months to come.
I know if you could see or know my comments you would say I certainly had gotten wordy in my old age!

I am so sorry to hear of Martina’s passing. Thank you Dana for contacting me. Martina was a special friend from DDS even though we were not able to stay into close contact. She is no longer suffering and in pain but I will continue to remember James, Dana & all the family. Our Heavenly Father will sustain all of us as we look to him for guidance and support.
