Funeral services for Marvell Morgan of Winona will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 at Kilmichael Baptist Church in Kilmichael, with burial following in Friendship Cemetery in Kilmichael. Pastor Dale Sorgen and Dr. David Sartin will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Barry Dismukes, Bryan Lott, Billy Ray Cummings, Glenn Pearson, Caleb Carver, Keith Ware, and Wade Henson. Honorary pallbearers will be Farris Jenkins, Monkey Grantham, Jeff Nance, Buddy Thomas, and members of the Men’s Eight Sunday School Class of Kilmichael Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 17 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kilmichael Baptist Church.

Marvell Morgan, 82, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Montgomery County on March 27, 1941, to Marvin Dudley and Mable Carrie Woods Morgan. For 33 years he served as the administrator of Winona Manor Nursing Home, and he also served as a coach for 10 years. After retirement, he worked 10 years as a surveyor for the Mississippi Board of Licensure. Mr. Morgan was very active in his community, serving on the Board of Directors of Winona Christian School, member of the Kilmichael Lion’s Club, and was a big supporter of the ministry of God’s House of Hope in Kilmichael. He could be found attending the many sporting events of Winona Christian School and the Winona Dodgers Travel Baseball Team. He was an avid Mississippi State fan. A man of strong faith, he was a member of the Gideon’s International and a member of Kilmichael Baptist Church, where he served on numerous committees throughout the years and as a Deacon for over 50 years.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Lollar Morgan; two daughters, Juanda Swanson (Phillip) of Kilmichael and Debbie Stafford (Jeffery) of Kilmichael; son, Stacy Morgan of McComb; brother, Joe Dell Morgan of Starkville; five grandchildren, Erika Bennett (Coty), Rex Bingham, Mary Morgan Presley (Blake), Phil Swanson, and Morgan Swanson (Alicia Leach); great-grandchildren, Ty Bennett, Eliza Bennett, Nora Bennett, Gus Swanson, and two more on the way. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Kilmichael Baptist Church, 205 North Rutherford Dr., Kilmichael, MS 39747, Winona Christian School, 1014 S Applegate St, Winona, MS 38967, God’s House of Hope, 800 School Rd, Kilmichael, MS 39747, or to the Winona Dodgers Travel Team.

One of the last times I saw Mr Marvel he told me he was afraid when he visited the nursing home they would keep him as a resident ❤️ I had many encounters with Mr Marvel with my years of nursing home health as when our patients couldn’t stay at home they became residents at the nursing home and Mr Marvel helped so many in his career there ❤️ Ms Jaunita and Mr Marvel were in health care many years and have such fond memories of them and praying for family ❤️🙏🏼Delma and Roger Mitchell

  9. He made everyone he was around have more fun and feel more loved! What a wonderful man and mentor he was to all who knew him. He loved Jesus and his family so much, and I know as much as the rest of us will miss him, you will miss him so much more! Praying for you, Mrs. Juanita, Juanda, Debbie, Stacy, Philip, Jeff, and his grands he loved so well.

    I am so glad that I got to see you both a few weeks ago. I will always remember that day. We talked, laughed, and reminisced. 🤗 I always enjoyed seeing you both. He was a sweet man.
