Mary Catherine “Polly” Branch Matthews

Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Catherine “Polly” Branch Matthews of Jackson, TN will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 22 at Scotland Baptist Church Cemetery in Winona, MS, with Rev. Jack Marshall officiating.

Mrs. Matthews, 93, passed away Friday, March 19 at Jackson General Hospital in Jackson, TN. She was born in Winona on May 6, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Alexander Dewitt and Bertha Lee Box Branch.  She was a homemaker, a member of Scotland Baptist Church and a graduate of Winona High School.  In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Crawford (E.C.) Matthews, three brothers, Dewitt, Winford and Sonny Branch and one sister Beatrice Howell.

Survivors include one son, Edward C. Matthews Jr. of Jackson, TN, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren

Polly and my Mother were best friends growing up. Polly and her brother Sonny took care of me when I was a baby. The last of the Branch generation. I lost the last of my Dad and Mother’s last year.so sad this generation is gone. R IP Polly !!
