Mary Jane Logan Collins

Mary Jane Logan Collins passed on to her heavenly home at the age of 65 on June 19, 2024 after suffering from a massive stroke on May 22nd, 2024, in which she never awakened from. Her last words were love of her mother, sister and brother she was visiting. Mary Jane was a long-time resident of Greenwood and only moved from there to be closer to her parents in the last year. She was born in Greenwood, MS on June 4, 1959, to Lorenzo Columbus “Roy” Logan, Jr. and Mary Irene Taylor Logan.

Mary Jane was a passionate, free spirit who loved her family, nieces, nephews, and precious parents. Her spontaneity, fun nature and artistic talents were some of the characteristics that made her so unique. MJ had a special relationship with animals, especially her cats. Her love of her family was ever-present as she never failed to share stories of her love for them, and loved to make artwork and buy special gifts.  She rehabbed many animals in ways such as nursing birds back to health and was featured in the Greenwood Commonwealth newspaper for this, as she was like a real-life “Snow White”. Many birds would stay around and didn’t want to leave her. One bird in particular, Herbie, would fly back and forth and land on her hat for daily visits after his release. She was an incredible artist that loved to sketch, paint, design and mold as part of her creation of jewelry and mobiles. Much of her work was given to friends and family. She used her creative talents during the time she worked for The John Richard Collection, where she created artwork including gold-leafed frames for mirrors and ceramics. She was well versed in her knowledge of stones, such as opals and she enjoyed finding rare jewelry and gifting it to family members. She also loved handcrafting gifts for everyone for Christmas. Mary Jane had a love for old movies and classic musicals. She was a devoted caretaker for her mom, dad, and husband while also always a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She truly cherished her family and close friends. Mary Jane’s last earthly gift was to donate her organs to those in need. Her family has been notified of three people that have already benefitted from this selfless act.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 20 years, Daniel Collins of Saltillo, her sister, Debra Logan Nored of Carrollton, MS, and brother John Roy Logan (Samantha) of Saltillo. She is survived by thirteen nieces and nephews: Ashley Scott (Solon), Meagan Austin (Andy), Kelli Stainback (Andrew), Kathleen Sistrunk (Hayden), Christina Moses, Mary Hannah Hopper, Brooke Logan Thrasher (Preston), Lily Rose Logan, John Samuel Logan, Garrett Faulkner Logan, Nicholas Lorenzo Logan, Julianne Taylor Logan, and Michael Todd Phillips. She also has eleven grand-nieces and nephews and special family members, David Taylor of Greenwood, and Bill and Emily Coleman of Waco, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy & Mary Logan. Though not a regular church attendee, Mary Jane loved Jesus and looked forward to the day that she would be with them in heaven. She was assisting with the care of her parents along with her sister and brother while also staying most of every night and day with her husband Danny who has been in hospice for last few months. She had just had a wonderful visit with her mom and was about to leave to return to her husband when she fell with a massive stroke to her brain stem. She never regained consciousness and remained on life support until two days after her mother’s burial. Her mother looked forward to being with her again along with Mary Jane’s father in heaven. She was a selfless person with a servant’s heart that loved doing for others and caring for animals in need. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends.
