Richard R. “John” Beckwith, 87 of North Carrollton, MS passed away on March 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on May 2, 1935, to Robert Rudolph Beckwith and Eugenia Captola Bishop Beckwith in the Teoc Community, Carroll County, MS.
John’s love of the outdoors inspired him to seek employment as a heavy equipment operator. He had on the job training with Carroll County Beat 2 as a heavy equipment operator, then in early 60’s he joined O. J. Stanton, Greenwood, MS as a crane operator building bridges across Mississippi. In 1971, he started with U. S. Corps of Engineers MAT Division where he received several service awards and promotions until his retirement.
In 1993, John retired and spent his time traveling and camping with Norma, hunting, keeping his yard pristine, and spending time with his family. He was member of Providence Baptist Church and loved his Lord and church family.
In 1952, John met Norma, the love of his life, and they were married at the Carrollton Methodist Parsonage on August 28, 1953.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert R. Beckwith and Captola Beckwith Odom of North Carrollton, MS; brother, Robert E. Beckwith, and sister-in-law, Kitty Beckwith of Kinston, NC. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean of North Carrollton; son, Robert R. “Bob” Beckwith of North Carrollton; daughter, Glenda Mims (Kenny) of Black Hawk; two grandchildren, Tanya Rogers and Will Mims (Andrea); and four great grandchildren, Abby, Buck, Thomas and Mary Lusco.

The Rev. David Haggerty will officiate at the services assisted by Rev. Kevin Tribble at Providence Baptist Church, Carrollton, MS at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
Pallbearers are Will Mims, Jeff Rogers, Donnie Corley, Robert E Beckwith II, Doug Nester, and Greg Avant. Honorary pallbearers are the men of Providence Baptist Church.

Glenda and Robert, we are so sorry about your daddy. He was always nice to us, and I know you’ll miss him so much. Our prayers are with you all.
