Robert C. “Bobby” Oliver

December 24, 1945 – June 14, 2023

Robert C. Oliver passed away in his sleep early on the morning of June 14, 2023.  He was better known to his friends and family as Bobby or Big Daddy.  Bobby was born on Christmas Eve in 1945.  He was a lifelong farmer, a husband to Shirley Land Oliver, a father to Walter Oliver (Christy), Ruth Marie Oliver (Chris Key), and Will Oliver, and a devoted grandfather to Rhett, Reece, and Lucy Grace Oliver. 

Bobby graduated from Vaiden High School as Valedictorian in 1963. and from Mississippi State University in 1968 with a degree in Agricultural Economics.  After graduating college, he served his country in the Army National Guard.  He married Shirley, April 14, 1973, and started a family soon after.  They lived on the hilltop of his family farm in Carroll County, Mississippi.  Throughout the years, Bobby served the community in many roles, Deacon of Scotland Baptist Church, President of Winona Academy Board of Directors, and mentor to countless farmers in the area.

He was preceded in death by his son, Will Oliver; his mother and father, Randolph and Eura Dell Oliver; and brother Nicky Oliver. 

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2023, and funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2023.  Both visitation and services will be held at Scotland Baptist Church.  Burial will be at the Scotland Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Rhett Oliver, Reece Oliver, Lucy Grace Oliver, Justin Farr, T.J. Evans, Sandy Evans, Russell Markle, and Dustin Markle. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Caldwell, Bruce Branch, Robert McEarchern, Mark Oliver, Robbie Welch, and Colon Woods.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winona Christian School; 1014 S Applegate, Winona, MS 38967.

    I am so sorry that I could not come and be there for you. I wanted to very much, but I am having some problems. I am praying that your many wonderful memories of Bobby will help you in the coming days. He was a nice man that helped many people and will be missed.

  12. Cousin Bobby was such a great man. My belated heartfelt condolences for Cousins Shirley, Ruth Marie, Walter and their children. He was such a gem to his extended family as well. We will miss his charm and kindness among many of his other enduring qualities. Heaven has gained an angel.
