Walter Schmitt “Smitty” Reeves

Funeral services for Mr. Walter Schmitt “Smitty” Reeves of Madison will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church near Kilmichael, with burial following in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Rev. Larry Saxton will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Justin Snow, Will Balentine, Matt Lynch, Mackey Simpson, Kyle Warren, and Brooks Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Lassiter, Murry Weems, Chuck Dawkins, Tommy Hitchcock, Jack Lanberson, Jack Perkins, Bill Pitts, and Ralph Brown.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 5 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Reeves, 70, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at his residence in Madison, MS. He was born February 22, 1952 to William and Jessie Wray Reeves. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, a former member of the Mississippi Army National Guard, and a graduate of Mississippi Delta Community College where he was a member of the Trojan Football Team.

Mr. Reeves is survived by his wife, Jan Ingram Reeves of Madison; daughters, Tara Baugh of Madison and Tisha Barlow of Madison; son, Walt Reeves of Franklin, TN; sisters, Debra Poiner of Eaton, TN and Brigitte Reeves of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
