Graveside services for Mr. William Lafayette Montgomery, Jr. of McCarley will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton. Rev. Richard Owens and Rev. Josh Regan will officiate the services.
Mr. Montgomery, 80, passed away March 10, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 4, 1941. He graduated JZ George High School in 1959 and farmed many years before becoming the owner operator of Bussey’s Western Store in Greenwood. He was an active member and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenwood for years before his health declined. At that time, he was honored by being bestowed the title of Elder Emeritus.
Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. William L. Montgomery, Sr. and Josephine G. Montgomery; his sister-in-law, Margaret Montgomery; and two brothers-in-law, James Howard and Jack Bennett.
He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Bettye Mullen Montgomery; his sons, Billy Montgomery (Marcie) and Wally Montgomery (Ann) of McCarley; grandchildren, Kala Johnson (Brock) of Mantee, Katty Lee Montgomery of Greenwood, Walt Montgomery (Paige) of Waynesboro and Cord Montgomery of McCarley; great-grandchildren, Emma Johnson, Wyatt Johnson, Freddie Montgomery and Mary Taylor Montgomery; brother, Charles J. Montgomery, Sr. of Greenwood; his sisters-in-law, Peggy Howard of McCarley and Shirley Bennett of McCarley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are former Elders who served with Mr. Montgomery at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to thank Jerry Branch and Neice Lee for their special care of Mr. Montgomery.

I send my deepest sympathy to Betty and all the family. Bill & I graduated together in 1959 from J. Z. George School. Thought a lot of him & Betty. He will be greatly missed by his family & many friends. Love & prayers to everyone!
