
Funeral services for Alton Glynn Downs, of Vaiden, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, at Poplar Springs Church near Kilmichael, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Tony Black will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Philip Beck, Steve Powers, Corley Thompson, Durward Stanton, Bill Rhine, and Billy Joe Ferguson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona and Wednesday, January 29, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Poplar Springs Church.
Alton Glynn Downs, 87, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at his residence in Vaiden. He was born in Vaiden, MS to Stephens and Agnes Ramage Downs on October 4, 1937. He was a retired welder for Screw Conveyor Corporation in Winona for over 40 years, a United States Army veteran and a member of the VFW Grenada post.
He is survived by two sons, James Stephen Downs of Vicksburg and Michael Edward Downs of Cleveland; brother, Ricky Downs of Vaiden; two grandchildren, Chris Downs of Louisiana and Courtney Beck of Vicksburg; one great-grandchild, Nick Martin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James “Tody” Downs and Grady Earnest Downs.

Ricky, Stevie and Michael: We are saddened with the news of Glynn’ s passing. The comfort in knowing he is united with his loved ones again makes things somewhat tolerable. Glenn was a really good friend. We worked together at Screw Conveyor many years ago. He was as honest man and respected by everyone who knew him. Prayers for all his family.
