Brenda Braswell Card

January 9, 1943 – January 21, 2025

Funeral services for Mrs. Brenda Braswell Card will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Don Smith will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Julian Wade Campbell, Cody Horn, Tanner Bartlett, Tucker Bartlett, Dylan Bartlett, and Jayden Bartlett.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 25 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Card, 82, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at her residence in Kilmichael. Born January 9, 1943, in Laurel, Mississippi, she was the daughter of J.W. and Rebecca Devine Braswell. 

She was married to the love of her life J.W. (Jake) Card for 49 years.

Mrs. Card was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church. She graduated from Kilmichael High School in 1961 and went on to further her education at Mississippi State University where she received her bachelor’s degree and later received her master’s from the University of Mississippi. She was a retired teacher.  She retired after 31 years of service; she really loved all her students.   She loved to travel.  She traveled to 48 of the 50 states and several countries.  She never met a stranger.  She loved her family and loved spending time with them.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, Carla Thompson of Kilmichael, Lisa Jacobs (Michael) of Gulf Port and Mary Jane Hancock (Jason) of Richland; 1 sister Janice Howard (Terry) of Winona; 9 grandchildren, Jonathan Woods (Tina) of Gulf Port, Randell Jacobs (Linda) of Hattiesburg, Chris David Woods (Krystal) of Gulf Port, and Chris Allan Jacobs (Brittany) of Gulf Port, Rikki Neal (Adam) of Kilmichael, Justin Thompson (Mason Evans) of Grenada, Hallie Hancock of Richland, Haigan Hancock (Blair) of Louisville and Holton Hancock (Claire) of Baton Rouge, LA; 21 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her very special caregivers, Jackie Sanders, Teresa Robinson, Mary Purnell, Sarah Ratliff and Grace Gayden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. (Jake) Card; sisters, Mavis Austin and Bonnie Campbell; and 1 great-grandchild.

  1. My Aunt Brenda was one very special lady! Many happy memories of her and Uncle Jay! She is free and happy in Heaven and I will see her again!
