Funeral services for Mrs. Byrd Julian Hicks Halfacre will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, at First Baptist Church of Winona. Mrs. Linda Halfacre Weir and Rev. Jay Anderson will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cale Colbert, Dr. Katie Halfacre-Cunningham, Julianna Osborne, Evan Osborne, Jase Osborne, Josh Osborne, Josey Osborne, Matt Weir, Addie Halfacre, and Mykel Cunningham.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 26, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona.

Mrs. Halfacre passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Vaiden Community Living Center, at the age of 85. She was born in Grenada, MS to Rev. Roscoe and Byrd Willis Williams Hicks on August 4, 1940. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winona. Mrs. Halfacre wore many hats throughout her life, such as church secretary and preschool teacher for Moore Memorial Methodist Church and a licensed insurance agent at her husband’s underwriting firm, Halfacre Insurance Agency, where she also looked after the books. Her most notable career was when she was elected to Circuit Clerk of Montgomery County. She served her community faithfully for many years. She was awarded the Humanitarian Award by the Mississippi Circuit Clerks Association in 2005. She was heavily involved in her community as a member, and former President, of the Winona Lions Club, where she also served as a counselor for the Lions Club Young Women’s Leadership Camp and Montgomery County Relay for Life. A faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Winona, she could be found pouring herself into the lives of the children of her church family in many capacities such as Girls in Action leader (GAs) and Sunday school leader. She also was extremely instrumental in the activities of Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox of Samaritan’s Purse, and the construction of Christ’s Cross at the Crossroads in Winona. She was awarded Woman of the Year in Winona in 2012.

She is survived by her daughters, Bea Halfacre Colbert (James) of Winona, Linda Halfacre Weir (William) of Starkville and Dr. Jennifer Halfacre of Winona; son, Marvin Wylie Halfacre Jr. (Robin) of Commerce, TX; brother-in-law, Billy Halfacre of Winona; eight grandchildren, Cale Colbert (Stephanie) of Woodruff, SC, Dr. Katie Halfacre-Cunningham (Mykel) of Commerce, TX, Julianna Halfacre Osborne of Starkville, Evan Halfacre Osborne of Starkville, Jase Osborne of Winona, Josh Osborne of Winona, Josey Osborne of Winona and Addie Halfacre of Commerce, TX; two bonus grandchildren, Matt Weir of Hattiesburg and Alex Leming (Blake) of Virginia Beach; five great-grandchildren, Lane Colbert, Scarlett Byrd Halfacre-Cunningham, Wylie Colbert, Booker Halfacre-Cunningham, Bodie Halfacre-Cunningham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wylie Halfacre, Sr.

  5. I loved seeing Mrs. Halfacre at the nursing home. She always had a smile on her face. I would tell her, “I love you!” She would say, “I love you!” She sometimes got to hear us sing on Saturday’s. It always brightened her day. She was an angel. I will see you again in heaven. Prayers for the family.
