Delia J. Mitchell, resident of Saltillo, died after an extended illness on January 22, 2026 at the age of 69.
Didi, as she was affectionately known, is survived by her husband Sam Mitchell; her two sons, Jonathan and Daniel Mitchell; one granddaughter Ansley Mitchell; and brother John Johnson.
Didi, the youngest of five siblings, was born in Jackson, MS on August 3, 1956, to Bill and Ruby Johnson. Soon after, the family moved to Winona, MS and she graduated from Winona Academy in 1974. Afterward, she moved back to Jackson, where she met her future husband, Sam. The two were married in 1980, and the couple welcomed two sons, who became the focus of her life.
Didi was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking and singing. She was a devoted Christian and member of Faith Baptist Church in Saltillo. She displayed scriptures around her home, as well as photos of her family, children and granddaughter, reminding her daily of the love she carried and the love she gave. Her faith reflected the promise of Romans 8:38–39 that ‘neither death, life, angels, rulers, nor any created thing can separate believers from the love of God in Christ Jesus.’
She will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew her.
She was a special friend to me for over the last year and I am so blessed to have known her. I know her son’s and granddaughter was her world. She will always hold a special place in my heart.
To be absent from the body is to be with the Lord.
Praise God she has eternal healing.

She was one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever known and like a second mom to me in my adolescent years, prayers for her family!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My special friend is totally healed, praise God. To be absent from the body is to be with the Lord ! I will truly miss here earthly presence but so blessed that God placed her in my life for a while.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
So enjoyed meeting and knowing Didi in Garden Park. I’m praying for her family.
This precious soul is now worshiping at the feet of Jesus. She made my daughter’s wedding dress from a picture we showed her in a magazine. And I’ll never forget she was sitting in front of us at church and during the service she reached back and held my hand while David gave his testimony.
