Frances Ramsey Gardner

June 24, 1931 – August 18, 2025

Mrs. Frances Ramsey Gardner, of Winona, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025. She was born in Greenwood to Marshall and Frances Hoyle Ramsey.  After attending Millsaps College, she married Rufus King Gardner in 1951.  Mrs. Gardner served as librarian for the Winona-Montgomery County Library.  She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada, Mississippi.  Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mary Ann Clarke, and brother Marshall Ramsey, Jr.   

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her sister Jane Ramsey of Irvine, California; daughter Frances Gardner Rogers (James) of Monroe, Louisiana; sons Rufus Gardner, Jr. of Brooksville, Florida; and Warren Gardner (Jean) of Grass Valley, California; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 23, at 2:00 p.m., at Immanuel Church in Winona, with the Rev. Rufus Van Horn officiating. A visitation will be held at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona on Saturday, August 23, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. 

Memorials may be made to Warren F. Hoyle American Legion Post 82, PO Box 82, Shelby, NC 28151, named in honor of Frances’ uncle.

  6. I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother. As a child growing up in Winona, I have wonderful memories of her from the library. Mr. Rufus Gardner was also my father’s (Harold Williams) boss at Delta Electric many years ago and our family was always very fond of both of them.
