
Funeral services for Mr. John Orvin Avent of Winona will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Winona Church of God, with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Rev. Eric Gregg will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Zach Avent, Hunter Johnson, James Travis Johnson, Chris Terry, Dustin Horne, and John Wayne Rigby. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Rigby, Tommy Rigby, Ray Miller and his great-grandsons: Laike Horne, Lane Horne, Luke Terry and Blake Johnson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Winona Church of God.
Mr. John Orvin Avent, 89, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at Vaiden Community Living Center. He was born in Webster County to John Robert and Lucille Hooper Avent on May 10, 1935. He was a member of Winona Church of God. He loved to worship and be a witness for his Savior, Jesus Christ and was also a lay speaker for the Church of God. Prior to retiring, he was a mechanic and enjoyed fishing earlier in life.
He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Rigby (Jerry) of Carmack and Gail Johnson (James “Bubba”) of Eupora; son, John G. Avent (Angel) of French Camp; sisters, Joyce Wolfe, Eva Mae Poe, Grace Ellis, and June Coleman; brother, Joseph “Joe” Avent; five grandchildren: Rosie Rigby Terry, Bobbie Sue Horne, James Travis Johnson, Hunter Johnson, and Zach Avent; six great-grandchildren: Laike Horne, Laila Horne, Lane Horne, Luke Terry, Blake Johnson, and Delta Claire Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Sue Blaylock Avent; his daughter, Debra Kay Avent; his sisters, Elsi Avent, Ethylee Fason, Catherine Ray, Ruby Myers, Jewel Wilson; his brothers, M.D. Avent, Glenn Avent, J.G. Avent, and Jimmy Avent.
