Marion McDougal “Mo” Jones

August 18, 1951 – March 24, 2025

Funeral services for Mr. Marion McDougal “Mo” Jones of Vaiden will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at Shongalo Presbyterian Church, with burial following in Vaiden Cemetery. Rev. Philip McRae will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Shannon Self, James Harvey, Marty Caldwell, Jerry Shirley, Henry Keys, and Ken McDougal. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob McEachern, Wayne Cook, Steve Armstrong, and Chris McRae.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 26, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona and Thursday, March 27, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Marion Jones, 73, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born to Marion “Sonny” and Ruby Noah Jones on August 18, 1951. He was a member and Elder of Blackmonton Presbyterian Church in Vaiden, MS. Marion loved his family dearly. He enjoyed playing golf and hunting. He loved his collegiate alma mater, Mississippi State University, where he graduated in 1973. While in attendance at MSU he participated in track and field and pole vaulting. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for twelve years. He had a ten-year coaching career in Georgia before moving back to Mississippi to join the family farm and ginning business.

He is survived by his wife, Judye Jones of Vaiden; sister, Linda Jones Darby (Harvey) of Tillatoba; brother, Joe Don Jones (Mary Alice) of Vaiden; three nieces and nephews, Chanda Darby of Tillatoba, Patrick Darby of Austin, TX and Emily Jones Rhodus (Todd) of Madison; great nephew, Ethan Rhodus; and great niece, Allie Rhodus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Henry Grady “H.G.” Word IV.

    1. I went to school with Marion from the first grade until graduation. He was a sweet and fun loving guy. Always ready with an easy big smile. Will miss him
