Mr. Lott, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Vaiden Community Living Center. He was born on March 12, 1946, to Roger Hays and Lottie Bernice Bailey Lott. He was a member of Kilmichael Baptist Church.

Born and raised in Coila, MS he worked at Carrollton Manufacturing for 20+ years. After it closed, he worked in several other factories before retiring from Heatcraft in Grenada Ms.

After retiring, he spent most everyday with his son Trent at Lott’s Exxon making coffee, running errands and managing in his “Smooth” way. He loved his family very much and never missed a goodbye with the words following “I love you very much.”

He loved going to church and hardly ever missed a Sunday until he wasn’t able to go. Gospel music was his favorite and loved to sing in which the Lord blessed with a beautiful voice.

He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was an avid gardener and took pride in his tomatoes. He loved going to the races and listening to trucks run. He also had a great interest in tractors. He will be greatly missed as well as his many sayings. But the one he may always be remembered by is “later on!” And we know we will see him one day later on.

Smooth is survived by one daughter, Tina May of Brandon; one son, Bryan Lott (Stacey) of Kilmichael; daughter in law, Amanda Lott of Winona; two sisters, Ruth Hovas (DD) of Kilmichael and Diane Moon (Bruce) of Water Valley; twin brother, Don Lott (Mary) of Conroe, Texas; eight grandchildren, David Lee May, Warren May, Hope May, Brooks Lott, Bailey Lott, Molly Beth Lott, Lauren Lott Nail, and Anna Paige Lott Wilssens; a host of great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend Tommy “Heart Attack” Hearn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Trent Lott; and brothers, Carl Lott, Winford Lott, and Gale Lott.

Memorial contributions may be made to Winona Christian School or the charity of the donor’s choice.

  1. Lott Family,

I am so sorry to learn that Mr. Lott passed away. He was one of my favorites when I worked at the nursing home. He was always so kind to my mother. I enjoyed many interesting conversations with him. I know you all will miss him. He is in heaven now with a new body and mind. God bless you all with comfort in the coming days.

  2. Dear Family,

It saddens my heart to think I will never hear “later on” again this side of heaven. I always enjoyed my visits with him. He had a pretty singing voice and a great sense of humor! I’m thankful he will be reunited with his baby boy and be able to have a new mind and body no longer taxed with pain of any kind. Prayers for comfort and peace. It’s never easy to say goodbye.

    Sincerely,

    ❤️Tammie Goss and Family
