A memorial service for Mrs. Roxie Pittman Abel, of Duck Hill, will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Madison, MS. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Winona, MS, with visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. Andy Stoddard will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Duck Hill cemetery in Duck Hill, MS.
Mrs. Roxie Pittman Abel, 90, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024, at SummerHouse Beau Ridge in Ridgeland, MS. She was born to Keith Lipe and Mattie Mae Hemphill Pittman on January 8, 1934. She was a member of Red Hill Church of Christ near Alva. She graduated from Alva High School Magna Cum Laude. She attended the University of Mississippi where she obtained a master’s degree in Elementary Education, English, and Counseling. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Abel taught in the Duck Hill and Winona Elementary school systems for over 34 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Kaye Abel Herring of Ridgeland and Tuddy Marimae Abel Ryan of Rockwall, TX; three grandchildren: Bryan “Chip” Herring (Katherine) of Ridgeland, Sean Travis Ryan (Sarah) of Rowette, TX, and Shannon Eileen Ryan Sheehan (Michael) of East Rutherford, NJ; and three great-grandchildren: Blaire, Katie, and Anne Travis Herring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Travis Abel.

Nanna was loved by the Grubbs family especially by Lee who grew up with Bryan(known to us as Chip)!
