Shed Hill Hunger, III

September 7, 1957 – October 15, 2024

It is with deep sorrow and bittersweet gratitude that the Hunger family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Shed Hill Hunger III at the age of 67. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loved ones on October 15, 2024, following a long battle with declining health. Shed was born in Winona, MS to Charlotte and Shed Hill Hunger Jr on September 7, 1957, as Sputnik orbited the Earth, which led to his lovingly given nickname of “Sput”.

Shed’s indomitable spirit and kind heart could be felt by anyone he came into contact with. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, share himself, and evoke that same spirit of love in each person he knew. He never met a stranger. His imaginative personality led to many creative words and phrases his close family and friends will never forget. He shared many passions with his son, including a love of history, facts, music, and of course, anything and everything related to Ole Miss!

He was an avid fisherman who loved competing in Bass Tournaments, especially when his son was old enough to join him as his partner. As a family, they enjoyed tailgating together in the Grove before attending Ole Miss games. Before his health declined, they loved to travel and have new adventures whenever they could.

Shed was preceded in death by his son Nathaniel Charles Hunger and parents Charlotte Young Hunger and Shed Hunger Jr. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Tammy Woods Hunger; his son, Shed Hill Hunger IV, and his wife, Sevi; his sister, Alleda Joseph; his brother, James Hunger, and his wife, Shelley; as well as his aunt, Mamie (Lib) Hudson, uncle Frank Watson Hunger, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held at the Moore Memorial Methodist Church Family Life Center from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, and from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday, October 18, 2024, in the church sanctuary, at 201 Magnolia Street, Winona, MS.

A celebration of Shed’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Moore Memorial Methodist Church, where Shed, his son, and three prior generations of Hungers were members. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona, MS. Rev. Neville Vanderburg will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Jamie Hudson, Joe Hudson, Dr. Louie Harrison, Joey Hedgepeth, Bobby Love Jr., and Chase Amason. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Flynn, Fred Williams, Jimmy Gant, Kenny Self, Lloyd Chism, Gene McNeer, Chris Perry, Chris Thomas, John Heaton Jr., Paul Heaton, Steven Bennett, Chris Tollison, and Billy Wells.
